About

Great Basin Pack Llamas is owned and operated by Collin and Amelia, based out of Reno, NV and Susanville, CA. Collin was first introduced to llamas in 2021 when his Dad came up with the idea to rent them for a hunt in the Selway Wilderness in Idaho. They rented 5 llamas for 8 days and Collin fell in love with the charismatic animals. Not only were they the most fun companions, but their packing abilities and ease of use made them perfect for novice users. Ever since then, Collin had wanted to bring a commercial packing operation to his hometown of Reno, NV. He not only wanted to learn more about the fascinating critters, but also wanted others to share in that same joy. Collin set out to make his dream a reality in 2023 by purchasing 4 llamas.

In the midst of looking for new llama pack saddles, Collin met Amelia. Amelia grew up with llamas that were used for packing, showing (including costume contests!), and as farm pets. Amelia’s parents were selling some gear and Collin happened to be in the market. Amelia met up with Collin to sell him the saddle and the rest is history. Amelia joined the herd in 2024 and began helping with the Great Basin Pack Llamas operations.

Our llamas

Currently, we have 4 llamas - Dexter, Roscoe, Wally and Bleeker.

Dexter and Roscoe are about 7 years old and are our seasoned packers. Wally and Bleeker are about 3 years old and we have been working hard training them to be added to the pack string. Dexter is our cool, calm, and collected lead llama. Wally is our extra fluffy fan-favorite goofball second-in-line llama. Roscoe is our steadfast, original expert pack llama and most-enthusiastic on-the-trail snacker, and our third-in-line llama. Bleeker is our most handsome young llama, and our fourth-in-line.
